Warm Winter Greetings from Sendwithus

giphy-26

Next week, our team of SWUbies will be taking some much needed time off to breathe deep, soak up family time, and play with our new Hatchimals. As such, our in-app live chat support will be unavailable from December 24th to January 3rd. API and App Dashboard functionality will be unaffected.

Fret not – if you run into any problems, just drop us an email at support@sendwithus.com, which we‘ll be monitoring per usual.  If you’d like to extend us any holiday wishes such as a Happy Christmukkah, Robonzaa, or just share cute dog pictures – give us a shout on Twitter, @send_with_us.

Mailgun Verification Changes: What you need to know

As of December 1st, 2016, Mailgun will require all sending domains to be verified to continue sending and receiving messages. If you’re one of our friends sending with an unverified domain, it’s time to get on this and verify so that your emails will continue without disruption.

To access and update, follow these steps:

  1. Login to the Mailgun Dashboard and select the “Domains” Section.
  2. Select any domain that is labeled as “unverified” in orange.
  3. In the Domain Verification & DNS section, locate the records that have a red warning indicator.
  4. Now within the DNS administration tool provided by your DNS or hosting provider, you’ll need to add all these listed DNS records.  Mailgun has these great guides to walk you through the process for common providers.
  5. After you’ve added all listed records, click the “Check DNS Records Now” button in the Mailgun dashboard, from the same section where you pulled the values. Note: it may take up to 24 hours for this to resolve due to caching.
  6. Once the verification is complete, your domain will update to say “Verified” within Mailgun.

Not sure which domains are actively sending/receiving messages? Check out the logs and reporting features within the Mailgun dashboard. If you run into trouble, get in touch with the Mailgun support team by creating a help ticket.

Reminder – the changes will go live on Dec 1. It may only be November 7th today but if years past are any indicator – the month of November will fly by.

Get this verification knocked out early so you can cruise into the Thanksgiving season knowing that you won’t be stuck updating this information in the midst of a post-feast turkey haze.

Cheers,
The Sendwithus Team

Email Zen is on the Horizon

We are thrilled to announce our latest addition to our Open Source Email Template library: the Mantra template. Mantra was built by the super-talented folks at Email Monks. Give them a shout if you need some #blessed emails.

Cerberus: A Template that Teaches You to Code Emails

While there are plenty of tools out there that help you draft emails using a friendly interface, your true email potential will always go untapped if you’re not comfortable digging into the code a bit. Since email is largely a sort of self-taught profession (I’ve never met anyone with an email design degree) usually this means digging into an email coded by someone else or–and good luck with this–code generated by one of those editors you used to consider friendly.

Our latest addition to the Open-Source Template Library, Cerberus, is a set of templates that is meant to bridge that gap. If you already have a general idea of how HTML works, but you shudder at the thought of trying to sort out the 239 different tables in some existing code, give em a look!

The Cerberus templates were created by our friend Ted Goas to serve as basic frames to build on when creating your own designs, but the first step of doing that is deciding between a couple of different design methodologies: Responsive, Fluid, and Hybrid. His rundown of each method’s strengths and weaknesses is a wonderful jumping off point if you’ve been hearing these phrases but have had a hard time nailing down what they mean.

Inlining Like It’s 1999

One of the more peculiar frustrations of email development is that many email clients strip out the data in your head tag. This means your CSS has to be written inline in a style tag to avoid being amputated. “But,” you may be thinking, “that doesn’t sound very Cascading at all!” and you would be right.

yeah, get in line
Luckily, if you’re using our editor, you never needed to know any of this because we inline everything behind the scenes automatically. If, for whatever crazy reason, you’re not using our editor, that’s fine. It’s your loss. We’re not even hurt. It’s FINE! In fact, it’s so fine we want to do something nice for you, so we’ve made our CSS inliner available for everyone–you don’t even have to log in. Important News for Mandrill Customers

This week Mailchimp grabbed the headlines of the email world by announcing that Mandrill, their transactional email service upon which a number of Sendwithus customers depend, will be folded into their Mailchimp offering as a paid add-on. They have also provided an FAQ to answer detailed questions.

Mailchimp has given current Mandrill customers until April 27th, 2016 to merge their accounts into paid Mailchimp accounts. Tom Davis at Mailchimp assures us that all Mandrill functionality will continue to work as is until that date, and that for those customers who choose to merge their Mandrill accounts into a paid Mailchimp account that all Mandrill API keys, templates, etc. will continue to work as expected past the April 27th deadline.
