Stay out of the Penalty Box: Email Deliverability with SendGrid

On November 30, 2016, Luke Martinez of SendGrid and I hosted a webinar about Email Deliverability. Luke is a Deliverability Consultant and helps companies sort out complex issues, guiding them on the road to a great Sender Reputation. You put a lot of time, effort, and energy into your email campaigns, however, no one will read them if you’ve developed a bad ‘rep.

A few things we covered:

  • 9 most important email engagement metrics for sending reputation
  • Top 4 expectations for senders
  • How to use A/B testing to try new things without impacting deliverability

Don’t Let Big Emails Cost You Big Sales

Despite what they tell you in Texas: bigger is not always better – at least when it comes to email. Sidebar: during my three-year tenure as an Austinite, I was very disappointed to learn that not all toast in Texas is Texas Toast. I know, I know – I was just as devastated as you.

Bigger is not always better when it comes to emails, in fact – huge emails could cost you big sales.

I’ve looked at clouds from both sides now

ABC

Consider your colleague’s perspectives and get your team on board.

It’s no secret that here at Sendwithus, we’re big supporters of cloud-hosted email templates. Moving transactional emails from hard-coded to the cloud makes emails more accessible to different teams and easier to manage, overall.

But before you start making waves at your workplace, be sure to consider the impact on all teams: Marketing, Product, and Development. Changing workflows and shifting tools or processes are rarely met without some level of pushback. Keep in mind that there’s always a learning curve to any new tool, for all users. The best way to have a successful rollout is to consider the needs of all stakeholders.

For more on what to consider before you start your transition, check out this post by our CEO, Matt Harris – The ABCs of Moving to Cloud Email Templates.

The Email Power Hour and the Value of A/B Testing

In 2016, Sendwithus hosted a recurring event at our San Francisco HQ – The Email Power Hour. We invited local email aficionados and nerds alike to join us for some snacks and drinks while geeking out on email. One of these events focused on the topic of A/B testing.

Webinar: One Size Fits None

Matt Harris, Sendwithus CEO and Co-founder, recently joined Dan Buckstaff, VP of Marketing at Jetlore, to discuss the trend for Best in Breed tech solutions.

Marketing is difficult, so why not sign up for one of those all-in-one CRM email marketing systems? Well, that’s one way to make things “easier” – (those are air quotes, btw) – while locking yourself into a large investment of both time and money. But there are better ways to create a custom mar-tech stack that meets your specific needs.

5 Common Mistakes That Destroy Email Deliverability

This post is brought to you by our friend, Jessica Martinez. Jessica is a music advocate, social media enthusiast, and Marketing Director at Kickbox.io.

Email deliverability is the percent of emails that land in the inbox. It doesn’t matter how dazzling your email campaigns are if you have low deliverability. Only a small portion of your recipients will ever see your messages. Inbox placement is influenced by many factors, including your sender reputation, so it’s important you adhere to best practices to ensure your messages get delivered.

While it’s common to make errors from time to time, these offenses can land you in big trouble if they occur frequently. This is a big deal because email deliverability issues are not easily fixed, so it’s best to avoid them in the first place.

3 Key Opportunities to Improve Email Engagement

This post is brought to you by our friend Mary Nielsen. Mary is a donning down-vester, Pacific Northwester, and Marketing Communications Specialist at LeadGenius

Every morning I open my work inbox and greet around 3,467 unread-and-counting emails, wondering if it will ever get down to that coveted and clean (0). It’s a wishful thought. In reality, there are simply too many emails for me to keep up.

I’m not alone, though. Last year, the average number of emails sent and received in a single day was 205 billion. And that number is only rising.

To put such a big number in perspective, Neptune is just over 205 billion miles from Earth.
