BattleSnake 2017: Slithering into First Place

Another spring has come to the island and that means another BattleSnake in the books. On March 4th, 2017 over 400 participants took over the lower level of the Victoria Conference Centre for an amazing day of programming, camaraderie and serpentine silliness. The event turned out great and the feedback we are still receiving has been amazing! After the tournament finals wrapped up we ran over to the Guild for an amazing after party hosted by Barkerville Brewing.

15 days until BattleSnake: Are you ready?

Shake off your post -Valentine’s chocolate sugar rush and get your coding fingers ready: BattleSnake 2017 is fast approaching!


For the fourth annual occurrence, we are inviting all developers and students to come and to join us for the programming competition of the year – pitting artificial intelligence (AI) snakes against one another to duke it out for eternal glory and over $5,000 in prizes.

BattleSnake is open to students and developers of all skill levels. We’ve already had over 450 people sign up to participate but still have room for more.

The Clash of the Snakes

BattleSnake 2016 was last week, and there is still excitement throughout Victoria about what an amazing event it was! With one hundred more people than expected showing up, BattleSnake turned out to be a 350 person event. That’s three times the number of participants as last year! We took over the entire Engineering and Computer Science Building all day, only to fill up Felicita’s campus pub afterward. Click to watch the Advanced Division Finals!

Startup Slam II: The Reslammening

This past weekend, we held the second annual Startup Slam on the campus of the University of Victoria and it was a blast. First things first: holy smokes there were a lot of people there. For those that showed up and participated, we’d like to sincerely thank you for being a part of the growing tech community on the island and bringing so much energy to the slam.

Victoria Startup Sendwithus in the Silicon Valley:  First BC-founded Company Backed by Legendary Accelerator Y Combinator 

When Victoria-based startup Sendwithus mysteriously uprooted their entire team to Silicon Valley, friends and colleagues were shocked at the bold move. Within a couple weeks, the 8-person team packed their suitcases and moved into a house in Sunnyvale, California. They told friends and colleagues their goal was to build faster and be in proximity to the Silicon Valley technology scene, but co-founders Matt Harris and Brad Van Vugt had bigger reasons behind the move.

Sendwithus, a Software as a Service (SaaS) company focusing on A/B testing for transactional email, announced their backing by the legendary startup incubator Y Combinator (YC) in a recent TechCrunch article.
